VATAS - Visual, Auditory, and Tactile Scale
The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) is a pain rating scale. In this scoring system, a line divided into sections according to a 10-point scale is used, where the patient marks the place on the line representing their pain It is interpreted as ‘no pain’ at the left end (0 cm) and ‘worst pain’ at the right end (10 cm) of the personally reported scaling. The distance from the starting point (left end) to where patients mark is recorded in centimeters and interpreted as their pain. Values can be used to monitor the progression of pain in a patient or compare pain among patients with similar conditions. The scale is also used to assess mood, appetite, asthma, dyspepsia, and ambulation. Recently, mobile versions of the VAS are available for both data tracking and regular patient monitoring purposes.
VATAS Overview:
VATAS is a mobile pain rating system designed to enhance user compliance. It features a ruler from 0 to 10, where zero represents no pain and 10 represents the worst pain. As the button on the ruler moves from 0 to 10, an alert sound starts and gradually increases in intensity. Simultaneously, as the button moves from left to right on the ruler, the vibration intensity of the mobile device increases. To improve visual coherence, the screen brightness of the mobile device decreases, and the background changes from blue to red as the button progresses from left to right on the ruler.
